Susan obtained her BSN from the University of Saskatchewan, then began her nursing career as an ICU nurse at the trauma center in Regina, Saskatchewan. She then worked in ICU, CCU, and Transplant Units in various regions of the USA before settling in South Shore Montreal with her family.
She initially started teaching at Dawson College in the nursing program and then moved over in 2015 to Champlain Regional College in Saint Lambert. Her current nursing specialties include mental health nursing and gerontology, along with med-surg placements as needed. She was an active member of the Blended Learning Lead Team at Champlain and has served one term on the academic council. She also has participated on the Institutional Policy of Evaluating Student Learning (IPESL) committee for a few years, working on its revision and implementation.
In the nursing program she helped with setting up hi-fidelity simulation and continues to organize actors for mental health simulation. She also has been a key faculty member in promoting Indigenous content.
Susan completed her M. Ed. at University of Sherbrooke through the Performa program where she focused on Team-based Learning in CEGEP nursing with an interest in effective learning team formation.
Her favourite teaching task is accompanying her students in clinical settings where authentic learning takes place every shift. She is not afraid to try out new teaching techniques, and to learn from them!
