Dr. Phoebe Jackson, SALTISE Fellow and faculty at John Abbott College, will present at Perusall Exchange 2024, June 9-15

Title: Tools for discouraging cheating & encouraging learning on formative assessments

Abstract: Both a challenge and an opportunity, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) forces us to rethink our assessment practices. If the misuse of GenAI means students aren’t benefitting from certain formative assessments, do we give them up? Or can we find a better way forward? In this session, a college physics teacher discusses her struggles and successes dealing with the misuse of GenAI. As part of a multipronged solution, an activity will be shared that is designed to teach students how to use ChatGPT and similar tools to help rather than hinder learning during formative assessments such as Perusall annotations.

The Perusall Exchange is an annual community conference that has both synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for participation. Attend at your convenience while still engaging in dynamic dialogue with other attendees and presenters – whether you join us asynchronously on the Perusall platform or synchronously for the live sessions.
