Have you presented an innovative teaching practice, course redesign, educational technology initiative, community partnership, or other practice-based project at the past SALTISE conference? If yes, ISLS 2027 offers an exciting opportunity to bring that work to an international audience!
The 2027 Annual Meeting of the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) will mark an important milestone: for the first time in ISLS history, the conference will be held in the Global South, in Mumbai, India. And for those unable to travel to Mumbai, an online presentation format will also be available—so travel need not be a barrier to participating.
The ISLS 2027 promotes the emerging Practice-Oriented Papers category designed to recognize educators and practitioners as producers of knowledge—not simply as participants in research.
This new category is particularly relevant to the SALTISE community. It invites practitioners to share work that begins with a genuine problem, possibility, or innovation arising from practice and to reflect on what was tried, what happened, what changed, what was learned, and what others working in similar contexts might take from the experience. Contributions might include classroom innovations, course and curriculum redesign, educational technologies, collaborative initiatives, professional learning, community partnerships, and lessons emerging from adaptation, iteration, challenges, or unexpected outcomes.
Importantly, you do not need to turn your work into a traditional research study. Practice-Oriented Papers are intended to make practitioner knowledge, professional judgement, design decisions, and learning from practice visible to the international Learning Sciences and Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) communities.
If you have shared your work at SALTISE—or have a story of educational practice that others could learn from—consider taking the next step and submitting a paper to the ISLS 2027.
Submission deadlines are approaching and follow a two-stage process:
October 9, 2026 — Draft submission
Title, abstract, keywords, and a work-in-progress file are due for long and short papers, posters, Practice-Oriented Papers, and symposia.
October 16, 2026 — Final submission
Complete submissions are due.
For Practice-Oriented Papers, submissions are 3,000 words in total, including a 150-word abstract, figures/tables, references, acknowledgements, and appendices.
Your practice has a story to tell. ISLS 2027 offers an opportunity to bring that story from the SALTISE community to an international stage—from Mumbai and online.
