Session S-02 - Out of the Classroom and into the Community: Stories and Strategies from CEGEP Teachers

June 01, 2026 | 9:00 - 10:15 AM Room: E-2024

Join a multidisciplinary panel of CEGEP educators who connect their classes with the world beyond campus. Panelists will share stories of community-based learning experiences – from walking tours and live theatre to land-based activities led by Indigenous knowledge-keepers – and reflect on how these experiences help students deepen understanding, challenge assumptions, develop real-world skills, and engage with diverse ways of knowing. You’ll gain practical strategies for planning and implementing community-based learning experiences, whether it’s a short local outing, a guest-led session on campus, or something more ambitious. Panelists will also offer candid reflections on the challenges they’ve faced and how they’ve navigated them. Whether you’re curious, hesitant, or ready to plan your next outing, this session offers actionable ideas, honest insights, and time to talk with colleagues about integrating field trips and community-based learning into your teaching.
