Symposium
Session S-03 - Ethical and Responsible Uses of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Faculty Narratives, Tensions, and Pedagogical Strategies
Funded by the Entente Canada–Québec (ECQ), this symposium presents a qualitative, narrative-based inquiry into the ethical and responsible use of AI in higher education. Faculty stories from English and mathematics courses reveal concerns about plagiarism, diminished critical thinking, overreliance on AI, disciplinary authority, and limited AI literacy. In response, we present concrete strategies to foster responsible AI use, including explicit AI literacy instruction, transparent classroom policies, assessment redesign, and metacognitive supports to promote critical
engagement and ethical academic practices.
