Emily Foxman
Undergraduate Student
McGill University, Montreal
Anatomy and Cell Biology
As Director of the Office of Science Education1 at McGill University, I have known Emily since 2022 when she was a Bachelor of Science student in Anatomy and Cell Biology, and we hired her as the Communications Assistant for our unit. In this position, Emily applied her unique skillset to promote student learning and engagement within the Faculty of Science. Notably, she developed strategies to promote SciLearn, a program introducing students to the neuroscience of learning, which now attracts more than 1,500 students annually. Emily also led the design and dissemination of neuroeducation resources for students, including the SciLearn Healthy Brain Series, featured on the McGill SciLearn Instagram account. To support the annual Undergraduate Science Showcase, Emily nurtured key relationships with partners and led communications efforts that resulted in an unprecedented event turnout of more than 800 people last year.
As Vice-President, Academic Affairs, of the Science Undergraduate Society, Emily proved to be a strong student leader, advocating for academic rights, leading events, and supporting students seeking academic accommodations. She was also a three-time recipient of the Tomlinson Engagement Award for Mentors (TEAM), where her focus was mentoring students in introductory chemistry courses. Emily has also served on various committees (e.g. the Dean of the Faculty of Science Advisory Committee) and presented her research at local conferences. Emily is an excellent communicator, a reliable and empathetic collaborator, and is committed to supporting the learning and wellbeing of her peers, making her an exceptional candidate for the SALTISE Students as Educational Innovators Award (Undergraduate) 2026.
